field. back to work today. traffic and weather this morning going to be very important hitting the road. >> that's right. first to weather. right, lawrence? >> yes. everybody is well else ared today ready to go. >> great 4th of july. yes, the weather was fantastic. today i think we are going to crank up the temperatures a little bit. about 73 degrees, still some fog showing up in san francisco and dense fog at the coast. 90's in some of the valleys but a big cooldown coming up. more on the weather in a few minutes. first let's check traffic with elizabeth. >> thank you. back to work, folks. sorry. already we have an accident hayward northbound 880 approaching winton. they are clearing it to the right shoulder. if you are crossing any bridge across the bay area it looks nice. here's a live look at the san mateo bridge. conditions are good moving towards foster city and the peninsula. more traffic in a bit. back to you.

>> all right. thank you very much. the search continues for men in a capsized boat off the baja, california coast. 43 people off the passenger boat, most of the passengers from northern california. one of them is confirmed dead. seven others are still missing. that boat sank early sunday morning. kristy seifkin is keeping track of the search. >> reporter: good morning. those gentlemen left on a fishing trip that they thought would be a fun four-day excursion and got something they didn't expect. it was calm when they left on saturday. then on sunday a strong storm hit and two waves crashed over the boat capsizing the boat around 2:30 in the morning. most of the men were asleep at the time this is storm hit. some were able to make their

way to some of the secluded -- secluded islands in the area. others were holding onto ice chests meant to hold the fish. those men got dehydrated while waiting to be rescued. the u.s. coast guard and the mexican navy searched for survivors for more than 36 hours. >> they conducted their search until they were the -- first crew reached their limit. second crew was flown out there via coast guard to meet them and then they got in the same helicopter and the new crew took the helicopter down and searched. >> the survivors are reported to be in good condition but as i said some were sunburned and many dehydrated since they spent more than 15 hours in the water. that one american passenger confirmed dead not yet identified. and those seven other passengers still missing. now, the mexican government thought of turning this into a recovery missing but after talking to the u.s. government

turned it back into a rescue mission because they believe some of the individuals are still alive. they continue the search. a locksmith is going down. they are cell phones, car keys, identification are in the water, long gone so they are there to help the survivors get back in their cars and make their ways safely back home. >> the good news is the weather conditions, the water, the seas, not as rough and cold as we would see say up here? >> reporter: absolutely. because that weather was warmer and there are better conditions that's part of the search. >> thank you, kristy seifkin. three brothers who survived say they aren't leaving until they find their fourth brother. the wife of 55-year-old brian wong of berkeley is still missing. he and his brothers gary, glen and craig have taken an annual fish trip to baja for years. they are experienced in

survival. they are a tight-knit family. they do a lot of fishing together. gary wong called his wife to wire him money to come home since as kristy mentioned everybody lost their wallets, cell phones and car keys all lost in the sea of cortez. the brothers traveled with don lee of san ramon. his wife says lee is still missing. most of the people on the boat survived including a man from into the who joined the trip at the last minute. he called his wife to tell her that he is safe. >> then he mentioned that he got awakened at 2:30 and they all just had to jump off the boat and take what, you know, life jackets on, and he indicated they had been in the water for 15 hours. >> another local survivor from belmont says he including to an ice chest and floated on it until he was rescued. and another told his wife in

san martin he ended up near a liferaft after he was thrown in the water. among the missing this morning, 62-year-old mark dorland. his fiance says he was one of the first to fall in the water with no life vest. the man who organized the fishing trip bob higgins survived and charles gibson the police chief of contra costa community college district says he was sleeping like a baby until his alarm sounded and the boat sank. he spent 16 hours in the water before his rescue. you can find continuing coverage of the search for the missing boaters on our website, cbssf.com. in other news, several fires in east contra costa county kept firefighters very busy overnight. >> the biggest fire was bay point. the flames burned several acres of federal land near port chicago highway. kids were seen running from the area but it's not clear if they started it. several other fires broke out over a mile of grassland

including bay point and pittsburg. plenty of fireworks around the bay area last night legal and illegal. these are the illegal kind in east oakland. as you can see, there were a -- they were a lot more elaborate than sparklers. they provided a light show on the ground, a lot of noise. the oakland fire department patroled neighborhoods last night looking for illegal fireworks. but most of their work on the 4th involved arriving on the scene where the damage had already been done. >> most of the events we go to on the 4th of july are trauma- related where children may blow their hands off or have an injury to face, eyes or things of that sort. the number two would probably be fires. >> firefighters tried to do their best to stop the illegal displays ahead of time, but they admit that does not always work. after the 4th of july, you have to go back to work. let's get you caught up with traffic and weather. lawrence, beautiful day yesterday. >> yeah. i think today even a little

hotter in some parts of the bay area especially inland. get a load of this, folks. you're starting to see subtropical moisture working its way into the bay area starting tomorrow. dense fog at the coast, thick there but you have clear skies inside the bay and the valleys. 50s and 60s outside right now. by the afternoon, again it looks like these temperatures getting hot in spots, 98 degrees in livermore, 96 concord, 91 san jose. a very comfortable 64 degrees in pacifica. this is going to be one of those days where you will see almost 40-degree spread from the coast to many of the valleys as high as 101 degrees in the hottest parts of the interior valleys for today. by tomorrow, it starts to cool down a little bit and then we start to see some of that subtropical moisture make its way into the bay area. then toward the next few days, looks like a major cooldown in the works. in fact, by next weekend we're talking about temperatures below average for this time year. time for a traffic check with elizabeth. >> let's go outside to show you live conditions in san jose.

here's a live look from our photographer near the alum rock exit. headlights northbound looks great across the south bay. fog an issue for the start of our morning commute. let's show you what it looks like right now at the golden gate bridge. you can't see a lot. got that halo effect on the street lights. so traffic nice and light. but watch out for low visibility especially from marin to san francisco. we are following this accident. it's southbound 101 approaching ralston avenue as you commute along the peninsula. we are not seeing any slowing. two or three lanes blocked in the southbound lanes of 101. so watch out for some likely slowing here. we'll continue to follow that in our next traffic hit but in the meantime, the south bay, you just saw 101 near alum rock. 280 moving just as well out of downtown san jose. back to you. >> thank you.

as two investigations into a deadly bart shooting continue, bart's chief says it appears the shooting was justified. two officers arrived at the san francisco civic center on a train shortly after there was a call about a man armed with a knife and a broken bottle. within a minute of confronting the man sunday night, one of the officers shot him. investigators are still not saying exactly what led up to the shooting. one of the officers though was cut on the arm. today there's going to be a fundraiser at a restaurant in san mateo to increase the reward in an unsolved murder. douglas costello was a night manager at it. gi fridays when he was killed back in january of 2008 and today would have been his 40th birthday. the reward is $40,000. in about an hour jury deliberations will resume in the murder trial of casey anthony. the 25-year-old florida woman is accused of killing her 2-

enjoy an all-day party along the waterfront. unlike many years past, it was a nice clear night at crissy field. last year it was foggy. the debate over the raising the nation's debt limit resumes today on capitol hill. the u.s. senate is cutting it holiday recess short. house returns to work tomorrow but it's not clear how much progress they will make. republicans and democrats are at odds over how to raise the debt limit. the biggest sticking point as always, taxes. the gop wants tax hikes off the table. >> the last thing that employers snead further disincentives to not hire people. and that's what higher taxes would mean. >> democrats want to end tax breaks for oil companies and for corporations that send jobs overseas. they would also like to eliminate subsidies for corporate jet owners. congress has about 4 weeks now before the treasury department says the government will

default on its bills. bad news for workers at defense contractor lockheed martin. they plan to cut 1500 jobs at the company's airline-making facilities. two weeks ago lockheed announced 1200 job cuts in its space division. these layoffs come as congress works to limit defense spending. tonight the santa clara city council meets to talk about planning and building a new stadium for the 49ers. you're looking at the design plans right now. and among the items up for discussion, moving forward with the next stage of design work on this big project and settling on a process for hiring subcontractors. reports that government regulators are looking at twitter to see if the company is trying to limit its competition. twitter hires outside companies to build 9 a.m. occasions for its messaging platform. sources say the federal trade commission is looking into the claims that the company is trying to buy or block the competition. to loosely quote the vice president, this is a big deal.

the crew with american flags. exxonmobil admits a river clean-up will be longer. they say they will do whatever they can to clean up an oil spill in montana. 42,000 gallons leaked from an under ground pipeline in a river saturday night. damage is over dozens of miles on the river. take a look at this amazing rescue in las vegas. after a huge thunderstorm there ripped through town, firefighters happened to see a homeless man clinging to a shopping cart in the middle of the water. he was seeking shelter from the heat sunday. firefighters got him out with a ladder. they took him to the hospital as a precaution. weather around the bay area this morning, if you are just getting up we have some dense fog showing up at the coast. watch out for that because it is right down on the surface and very thick.

inside the bay though mostly clear skies and cheer and mild still inland. i think as we head through the day the temperature is going to crank up. i think possibly over the century mark in some of the warmest spots inland. inside the bay you will find a variety of temperatures. 70s into the oakland area but 90s in san jose. and at the coast, almost 30 to 40 degrees cooler than some of the valleys as we'll see temperatures there mainly in the 60s and some of that patchy fog. numbers now breaking down lik this. 53 in san francisco. 62 san jose. if you plan to travel around the state, hot interior, 104 fresno, 103 sacramento, 84 lake tahoe where they are still snow skiing up there but looks like this heat wave is winding down after today. high pressure will bring one day of warmer temperatures to us but then after that things settle down a little bit. looks like a cool sea breeze kicking in meaning more low

clouds and fog on the way. today 80s and 90s inland. drop-off in temperatures at the coast and cooler there. 90s even some low 100s interior valleys for today. north bay temperatures in the 80s, even 90s inland. 60s at the beaches. next couple of days, temperatures drop off. subtropical moisture moves in across our skies on wednesday and thursday. much cooler temperatures looking toward next weekend. all right. traffic time now with elizabeth. >> thank you, lawrence. let's go right out towards the peninsula because we are still dealing with this accident. they now issued a traffic alert in fact. southbound 101 right there as you approach ralston avenue. sounds like three lanes are blocked right now. so expect some minor slowing there at the scene. we are actually sending a photographer out there now to check it out and let you know what's going on. sounds like there is an overturned car in the middle lane. they have three lanes total blocked at this time. to south bay everything is good through here. 280 fine out of downtown san

jose. 101 across the stretch another photographer standing by near the alum rock exit. he has been giving us sneak peeks this morning so everything is okay there. golden gate bridge, thick fog out there in some parts of the bay and you can see it right here across the span of the golden gate bridge. hard to see traffic this morning. you see a couple of headlight making their way towards the city. so far traffic nice and light on this tuesday morning after a long holiday weekend but yeah, watch out for that fog and low visibility across that stretch. antioch bridge traffic freight and looks okay all the way across highway 4. no delay through concord or pittsburg. and at the bay bridge toll plaza, looking good so far but yeah, a lot of people heading back to work after their long holiday so so far looks okay according to our sensors all across the upper deck. once you hit the road if anything changes remember kcbs, our radio partners, at 740-am and 106.9-fm. that's your traffic and weather. back to you. >> thank you. a mother's age and health

may be a factor when it comes to kids having autism. in the past, experts have blamed most of the risk on inherited genes but a study from stanford found a higher- than-expected rate of autism in fraternal twins. they say factors could include stress, diet, infections, along with how old the woman is when she gets pregnant. >> what we see cannot be only explained by genetic factors as previously thought but environmental factors affect both twin individuals, playing a significant role. it's a mixture of both factors. >> one in 100 children does have an autism disorder. 4:54. maria shriver could get a record-breaking advance if she decides to write a book about her marriage to arnold schwarzenegger. she filed for divorce last friday about two months after the former governor admitted he fathered a child with their housekeeper and now there are reports shriver is being offered a lucrative book deal possibly even more than the $15
